30 Days of Gratitude: November 30
November 30: Today is the last day of November. It definitely snuck up on me. Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is just a couple of weeks away. It's unbelievable how fast this year has gone by and as my thankful posts come to an end, I have realized that I shouldn't just be thankful when I am told to be or just in the month of November. I should be thankful ALL the time. So what I am thankful for today is my parents. I have no earthly idea what in the world I would do without them. They have supported me all throughout my life and are always there when no one else is, they are always there to pick me up when I fall down

My family arrived at the hospital around 4:00 p.m. and stayed there until 5:00 a.m. the next morning. She went through hours of surgery that night and was diagnosed with crohn's disease. Battle of the Bands Questions
Types of Intellectual Property
Creative Understanding
- If you were putting a portion of song lyrics such as "Baby you light up my world like nobody else" on a social media network such as Twitter and didn't put "What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction" after it.
- The name North Face is a trademark company and if you took the name idea and just changed the direction such as "South Bottom" that would be like stealing their name.
- If you took a quote by some famous author or designer and forgot to quote who said it.
- Having a store name but without it being registered with the state then another company comes along and trademarks the name but opens a different store.
Creative Understanding
- My understanding of creative rights is that anything that the owner has written or published belongs to them and it can only be approved by them.
- Materials that are protected by copyright law is anything that the owner has identified as theirs by copyrighting it such as the original love song performed by Jennifer Mellinger because she didn't want 'a pop singer to steal it.'
- Copyright law prohibits activities of others taking the owners work and copying, changing, and distributing it without their permission.
- My rules of copying music, games, etc. is that I don't take or use it unless you have permission. Don't illegally download music, simply purchase it on iTunes. Don't copy a game just so you don't have to pay for it. Accept the copyright law and do what is legal.
- I have never put this question into a lot of thought but it's actually quite important. I looked into it from all different perspectives. If I wrote a detailed 5 page paper, I wouldn't want anyone to plagiarize it and take credit for it because a 5 page paper can take a long time and effort. Same as if I was a top selling recording artist, which I am not, but if I was and I wrote a hit single then somehow it got stolen and they sold it to some big record label, I would be livid because writing songs takes a lot of dedication and hard work. Over all if someone took credit for something that I wrote or created, I would be upset because it's your work, not theirs.

This Sionian Life
Dear Sionian Life,
Hi producers of This Sionian Life. My name is Mary Helen and I am a freshman at Notre Dame de Sion. I want to pitch you a story about the first day in the life of a freshman. I experienced this day only a few weeks ago. The first day of freshman year can be a bit intimidating. You have so much running through your head, most of which is nerves created by the fear of the unknown. There are numerous questions presented in your mind. Is your locker going to open? Or will it be jammed? Are you going to be able to find all your classes? How much homework am I going to have? Who will my close friends be?
I pulled up into the Sion parking lot at around 7:45, where then I would proceed to the gym for the start of it all. I was excited yet nervous at the same time. All these unanswered questions were swirling through my brain. I was given my planer and schedule then patiently waited in a circle with 117 my fellow freshman students. This was only the beginning of an adventurous day.
If you are interested about hearing more about my first day as a freshman, I look forward to explaining it in more detail. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Mary Helen

Middle School Questions :)
1. Middle school is a time where you think you are learning absolutely nothing when in theory, you are. You might not remember how to solve a difficult algebra problem but you might be able to think back to a book that inspired you or something that taught you a major life lesson. In the 8th grade, I read To Kill A Mockingbird which is a common book to read in middle school. This book taught sent such a powerful message about the racism that was going on in the 60s and how one man, Atticus Finch, would stand up and defend a black man,Tom Robinson. I think I will be able to look back and remember the message of doing the right thing and standing up for someone who needs it. Besides To Kill A Mockingbird, I may remember the cells parts we learned in 7th grade or the tri-folds we made every week in 6th grade for reading projects.
It was interesting because as we were reading To Kill A Mockingbird, another movie was about to come out called The Help. There were a lot of comparisons between the books and racism in the south. I went to see the movie and then read the book, both were good.
Besides academics, I hope to remember the memories I made with all my friends like the first mixer, which at the time I was so pumped about, but looking back, my level of excitement was a little outrageous. Middle school does have good memories that I want to remember but there was also memories that I don't want to remember such as all the drama that is created and stirred around. All my drama started in the last 6 months of my 8th grade year. A lot of things were said about me by a girl that I thought was my best friend. I just hope that I don't remember all the harsh, rude comments that were said or the things that were done.
2. From what I have heard, moving is very difficult, especially if you are moving out of the state, even more so out of the country. Thankfully I have never had to move, but I have experienced other people moving. In first grade, my very best friend that I grew up with and spent most of my time with moved to London. Yes I just said London as in LONDON, ENGLAND! If you ask me, thats pretty far away. It was difficult to deal with because I wouldn't see her as much. That's a transition when you go from everyday with someone, to only once or twice a year.
My best friend moved to London and I was having troubles adjusting, but then this new girl came around the time she was leaving. Her name was Colleen and she had moved from Florida. She was so sweet and very pretty. I talked to her and she seemed a lot like me. I had a feeling we were going to be friends. From moment I met her, we became best of friends and still are to this very day. She talked about how it was hard to leave Florida because all of her friends were there and why in the world would you ever want to leave the beautiful weather and sandy beaches of Florida. She would talk about the house she useD to live in. It was one block away from the beach.
From my point of view, I think it was hard to adjust at first, but Colleen transitioned fantastically and she was dominating at everything she did whether it was making new friends or trying something new. If I have to compare her to Leo in the radio interview, I would say she was the exact opposite because she had this wonderful driving force and was always happy. Everyone absolutely loved her.
3. Middle school is a time where you are figuring out who you are and who you fit in with or want to hang out with. I didn't try on many different personalities during middle school. I found my personality and stuck to it. I thought about it. Your personality is a part of who are you. Why try and change it? I tried my hardest throughout middle school to stay true to myself because I knew that I am who I am. Some people tried to knock me down along the way but that's what comes along with middle school. I think you need to surround yourself with people who go along with your personality because if you don't, they might try to change you and your personality. You will encounter troubles sticking to your personality but just be able to be strong and stick with it because it will be the best in the end.

Nivea Lip Care
Nivea is a popular skin care brand that moisturizes your skin. One of Nivea's best product is Nivea Lip Care. This product is absolutely wonderful! It can be used all year round, in the harshest of winters or high atop the mountains in the middle of the summer. When I was in Colorado this summer, my lips were very chapped from the high altitude and dry air. I needed some sort of lip care that would keep my lips moist. I went to a CVS, where I found Nivea Lip Care. I knew from past experiences that Nivea was a good brand so I decided to buy their lip care product. Once I first applied the Nivea Lip Care product, it worked immediately, comforting my dry lips and keeping them moist for a long period of time.
There are many different types of Nivea Lip Care products that you can choose from such as A Kiss of Moisture, A Kiss of Smoothness, and much more! The price is very affordable. It's only $2.99! To purchase this product, you can go to a local drug store or visit this website. Hope you enjoy!

Freshman Retreat
Going into this retreat, I have thought about what the experience is going to be like. I'm not going to lie, I am a bit nervous about the whole thing but i think that's because it's in the middle of no where, where the closest place is a gas station and we are at a ranch. I am definitely not the type to enjoy going to a ranch and sleeping in a cabin. I have never been a fan of things like this, but I am all for trying new things. I know that it will be a learning experience and I will make and bond with new friends. Even though I am nervous and kind of dreading the whole thing, I know in the end it will most likely be an experience that I will look back on and say "Oh remember that".
